Posted November 15, 2013. I am looking at getting a big tank to do a trip on the XR. Also looking at getting a Roto Pak for the rear rack just to be sure. But I was thinking of getting an IMS brand or Clarke. As I had a Acerbis one years ago (think it was a multi fit xr600) and really didn't rate the fitment.

Posted March 21, 2012. I've heard some bad reviews on the quality of the seat, durability wise. Also yes a lot of people blow their tanks up a bit bigger. Plus's are that it looks damn cool and the ergonomics of the bike are much better for tight technical stuff, (you can get closer up on the gas tank as well)

Posted December 1, 2008. Honda recommends 10-40 or 20-50. Go with 10-40 if it's cold where you ride, 20-50 if it's hot. Honda XR400's are air and OIL cooled motors. Go with good oil.

With all dry sump Honda engines I believe this is the correct, and only method: - Hold bike totally vertical, I sit on it, and start the engine. - Let it run for 60 seconds. - Stop engine, remove dipstick and wipe. - Place dipstick in filler hole all the way but do NOT screw in.

I bought a 2K xr 400 two years ago. It was real finiky to start. Then my cam chain started to make sounds, sound like a bad wrist pin bearing. I ordered a cam chain and while the top end was off I put in valve seals, bored it to the first over, added a Wiesco piston(11.5-1) I think. It starts all the time first kick if the temp is above 50.

Posted May 15, 2007. My Ride. I think there is no other spark plug for our XR 400, the TRX400FW 1996-98 use NGK iridium DPR7EIX-9, but is 1mm short. The Split Fire is a very very good spark they have the SF416C for XR 400 but it's 1mm short than the NGKDPR9Z.
